Warranty Traps
You can buy extended warranties for all sorts of equipment nowadays - including for ink and laser printers. However, you should be careful and read the fine print, and take note of the items excluded. If you want to buy an extended warranty you should either buy one that extends the manufacturer's warranty or a warranty offered by the manufacturer. It is common for many extended warranties to exclude the print head in ink printers and the toner cartridge and/or drum unit in laser printers. So far as ink printers are concerned the part most likely to fail is the print head so if it is excluded the warranty is hardly worth the paper it is written on. This is because the cost of a new print head, if one is available, will often exceed the cost of a new printer so, under your extended warranty, if the print head is not replaced the printer should be. Warranties for laser printers often exclude the toner cartridge and/or the drum unit on the basis that these are consumable items. While this is true the consumables should be warranted for their normal life, fair wear and tear and extraordinary damage, excluded. If you can't get a warranty that satisfies these points don't buy it. If you want an extended warranty that covers everything the manufacturer covers, under the same rules as the manufacturer, call Second Image. This is the only kind of warranty we sell. Also you are protected by the Second Image guarantee. If you haven't read it check it out here.
