The telephone selling merchants are at it again. A customer recently called to tell us that she had been asked to "name her own price" for a toner cartridge provided she entered into a 6 months contract. There was no guarantee about pricing for the 6 months so you can draw your own conclusions.
We are well aware of these people and can promise you that, if you deal with them, you will inevitably end up paying more for your cartridges than from any other source. We have seen cases where the customer paid more for recycled cartridges than the cost of the original.
The advice from Second Image Printers & Copiers is to deal with someone you know you can trust - not a cold calling telephone jockey who will give you any price just to get the initial sale and lock you into a contract.

Wireless Print Scan Copy Fax - Save $56
Officejet J6480 was $449 now $393
The Hewlett Packard Officejet J6480 has both wireless and wired network capability as well as a USB connection. It will print, scan copy and fax and has a 35 sheet Automatic Document Feeder. There is a duplex unit for automatic double sided printing and four slots for camera memory cards. It uses economical cartridges #74XL Black (780 pages $45) and #75XL Colour (500 pages $49). Prices are for refilled cartridges.

The HP Photosmart D7260 Printer is designed for those who want the ease of use and convenience of a built in touchscreen, the efficiency of six individual ink tanks and the ability to print over a wired network or via USB. You can print via the 8.9cm touchscreen, directly from compatible memory cards or PictBridge enabled cameras. As well as an A4 paper tray it has a photo tray for 10 x 15 cm paper which automatically engages whenever you need it. Economical compatible cartridges are available.

HP LaserJet P1005
The HP LaserJet P1005 is the ideal personal laser printer. If you need a printer on your desk this is the answer. It is small and quick - 14 pages per minute A4 and your first page prints in 8.5 seconds from Power Save mode. It has a monthly duty cycle of 5,000 pages so you can be sure you are buying a reliable machine. 1500 page compatible cartridges only cost $108.
Print Scan Copy only $180
HP Photosmart C4480
This is an ideal machine for the home user. Print scan and copy. The print driver supports manual duplexing and makes it very easy to print on both sides of the page. It uses the #74XL and #75XL cartridges which cost $45 and $49 respectively.
Dust is the Enemy
One of the simplest ways to prolong the life of your printer is to cover it when not in use. Our attention was recently drawn to this website www.computerdust.com The site has a downloadable report in pdf format about the effects of dust on computer electronics and much of what is said is applicable to printers, particularly laser printers that use static electricity as part of the image formation process.
