Does YOUR Printer Lie to You

No, it's not a silly question. Some printer messages are deliberately misleading!!

Printer manufacturers are increasingly using misleading messages in their battle to keep you using their brand of ink rather than  less costly alternative cartridges. One way that they do this is with a misleading message or series of messages designed to confuse and annoy. The latest to come to our notice is where a printer has happily accepted the alternative cartridges and suddenly one day it says "Cartridge not recognised".

This message, in these circumstances, really means that the cartridge in question is empty. The printer knows that the cartridge is not an original by reading the electronic chip so, when the cartridge is empty, it says "Cartridge not recognised". If you don't know what is going on your response  will probably be to go out and buy an original cartridge for that printer when all you really should do is just change the empty cartridge and carry on.

If you get a message from your printer that you don't understand send an email to Second Image Printers & Copiers - we will do our best to help.

This message means what it says

For those of you with Brother ink printers the message "cartridge near empty" means exactly what it says. Don't change the cartridge when you get the near empty message as the message won't clear. Wait until the printer tells you to replace the empty cartridge, otherwise you will be stuck with the near empty message until the new cartridge is truly empty.
