Paper - Its hard to save money
You'll find it hard to save money on paper... It can be done, BUT when you are buying paper always put quality ahead of price.
You can damage your printer by using the wrong paper, or at least cause constant annoying malfunctioning to occur. This is quite common as one of our customers recently told us:
"Thank you for the information on printer paper, David! My printer has been driving me crazy lately…one day it works; the next day it's playing up again, and all for no apparent reason! Then I replaced the budget paper I had bought at a sale with a ream of yours, and presto!…it's working perfectly again! I felt really stilly not to have realised" Ros Paul, Business Owner, Paraparaumu
Cheap paper generally has a high clay content and swells up in wet and humid conditions causing those annoying paper jams. The clay also causes higher wear on the moving parts in your printer. The really cheap and nasty stuff may not even be cut at right angles causing pickup problems and paper skew.
The only benefit we have found of cheap, poor quality paper being on the market is that the competition has forced down the price of better quality papers .
Never use pre-printed paper that is not clearly labelled as being suitable for laser printing. The heat used by the laser can melt certain inks, leaving you, at best, with ugly output and, at worst, with an expensive repair job. Also, never preprint a form on your ink printer and then put it through a laser printer. You will get the same problem.
Don't use coated papers or transparencies unless they are clearly labelled as suitable for laser printing. If you have a colour laser printer be careful with transparencies. The higher temperatures used by colour laser printers can melt transparencies made for mono printers. You must use transparencies made expressly for use in colour laser printers. Never put window envelopes through a laser printer. The window will melt.
Finally always read the ream wrapper. Some respected brands are selling different classes of paper and you could, by just trusting the brand, buy the wrong paper. If the wrapper doesn't mention laser and/or photocopier then you shouldn't buy . Remember, it's hard to save money and buy good quality paper, though it is possible.
